I felt trapped…. I had too much work, too many things to juggle, not enough time to do everything that needed to be done as well as unexpected health issues……..I had reached a point where I had realised that I shouldn’t and couldn’t go on like this. A friend suggested that I look into Mindfulness (I’d previously pushed it aside as another thing I didn’t have time for), however this time I gave it a go.  Mike was recommended to me by a friend and after attending one of the monthly drop in sessions I had a feeling that wrestling back control of my mind was a good place to begin.  I started by attending Mike’s 6 Week Mindfulness Course and found real life benefits that I could immediately start to apply to “my life” and as I progressed through the course I could feel the perceived weight of “my life” start to get lighter and the mist starting to clear.  This promoted me to look deeper and I then went straight into his next 6 week “The Living Moment” course and the benefits continued to flow.  The outcome for me wasn’t enlightenment, but it was a clarity and understanding of who was really in control of my life and……. it turned out that it wasn’t my mind that had been playing tricks on me for so long.  If only I’d know this sooner.

I have been going to Mike Kewley’s Mindfulness events for some time now, regularly going to the monthly meets in both Douglas and Ramsey. I remember being slightly nervous the first time. However, the other people there were friendly and I was soon at ease. Mike shares his knowledge and experience in a very comfortable, relaxed manner. He has a way of talking about things in a way that makes it easier to understand. I’ve found every one of his subsequent events to be equally relaxed and welcoming, with Mike himself being very friendly and approachable. The monthly meetings, which are held in Douglas, Castletown, Peel and Ramsey offer something for all of us, whether new to Mindfulness or those with more practice. I don’t have a moments hesitation in recommending Mike Kewley’s monthly Mindfulness meetings. There really is something for everyone.

For anyone who has done Mike’s initial 6 week Mindfulness course, a natural next step is the 6 week Living Moment course. Mike covers some of the earlier topics in more depth as well as deepening our sitting practice with longer periods of sitting meditation.  Don’t expect to gain an instant full understanding of some of the topics such as Interbeing and Non-duality, but even being introduced to them helps to develop an enquiring mind.  I found this course helped me develop a regular daily sitting practice and further exploration of some of the subjects covered. I still sometimes use Mike’s guided meditations from his website in my daily practice

I had the best sleep ever last night. So relaxed after the class. 
Last weeks lesson was really powerful to understand thoughts are just thoughts. I’ve been trying to quit smoking for over 5 years and really struggled. I was feeding my own version of Mara everyday but I’ve always thought I was in control of my thoughts and I could stop if I just kept trying. I now realise it’s almost impossible to control the mind and smoking is just an addiction. So I’ve bought some patches and I’ve been using them this week. I haven’t smoked now for 5 days which is really impressive for me. 

Honestly, I don’t think I could have done it without your wise words. I’ve been successful for short periods of time before but this time I think I have the knowledge to free my mind a bit.

I reached out to Mike after struggling with a few things. I was a serial over-thinker, I worried about everything and panicked about most things. It was all getting too much and every day was becoming more and more of a battle. Little things like going to a shop or getting my haircut were becoming real challenges and I knew I needed to do something about it.

I felt an immediate sense of relief after seeing Mike for the first time, we practiced breath awareness and I can confidently say it has changed my life. After just 1 or 2 sessions and daily practices that Mike gave me, I noticed a real difference; in those moments of anxiety and panic I was learning how to take control through the breath awareness technique’s that Mike showed me.

I originally booked a 6 week course with Mike, but I started to see results after just 1 or 2 sessions; now mindfulness is a big part of my life and I always dedicate 10 to 20 minutes every day to practice. What Mike taught me is easy for anyone to follow and the benefits are huge.

Before I saw Mike I had a multitude of issues I wanted to work on. From chronic pain to anxiety and I thought yep let’s do it and see what I can learn to fix it. What I wasn’t really prepared for was that I had the answer the whole time!

I didn’t have to go half way around the world to find a guru with all the answers… I didn’t have to pay thousands in therapy sessions… All I had to do was sit. Sit and arm myself with some basic tools that could not only improve my life…but give me my life back.

Doing these sessions with Mike has made me realise that life is as simple as you make it – our minds are responsible for so much unnecessary anguish and drama- who wouldn’t want to be able to tap into this and just calm it… calm it down. You can’t achieve this on a wholesome level with medication and drugs. The human brain is capable of so much more than we know… it’s good to trust it once in a while.

I’d like to thank you again for my mindfulness awakening. I feel like my mind is slowly being freed from the suffocating constrains of anxiety. It was an every day fight with myself thinking I wasn’t good enough and how everything I did was worthless. I got to the point where I couldn’t even trust my own judgment anymore I had zero self confidence and felt completely alone. I felt like a frail broken twig blowing in the wind clinging onto the tree hoping not to snap.

Now I remember to stop and breathe, to find my anchor and let thoughts go as quickly as they come into my head. I’ve learnt to embrace life again, I’m able to be present in the moment and just enjoy being in it. I can breathe freely and appreciate life and I’m slowly getting to be ok with myself again.

The monthly drop in sessions have had such a positive impact on my way of thinking. Heartache, trauma, physical pain, or the struggles of day to day life often consume our energy, may be without even realising and it’s something we can all relate to. I found mindfulness provided all the right tools to deal with this, it helped create a better connection with myself, learn to stay in the present moment and find little drops of enlightenment along the way. Mike’s 6 week course came at just the right time, and I’ve truly loved every minute of it. Having sat the 6 Week Introduction to Mindfulness course in April, I felt like a new person. It really helped me to deal with some anxiety problems that I had been having in a way that nothing else I had tried had come close to doing.

The course makes something that, I think can be quite difficult to appreciate and to stick with on your own, very accessible and understandable. It taught me to be much more open and accepting of challenges, giving me a whole new perspective on the things that life throws at me.

I took part in the 6 weeks mindfulness course and it has really helped me to get in tune with myself. At the start I really struggled to sit still and mediate for anything more than a minute without being distracted. However, six weeks down the line after practicing most days I am now able to sit for over 20 minutes and I feel that it has really helped me relax. I am now more calm and much less stressed. It has also helped me recognise that I need to be more responsible for myself and for my actions and words. I feel like it is the start of something really amazing for me.
